I had such an incredible time competing this year in my first ever FITNESS competition.  Last year I broke the ice by competing in the BIKINI round of Fitness New England.  This year, I ventured into the world of fitness and am looking forward to competing again next year.  With a solid year of proper diet and training, I will again compete in the Fitness Category as well as Figure.

What is the Key to Losing Weight?

What is the key to losing weight?

Consistency is the key to meeting any fitness goal.  Making your exercise regimen a part of your daily lifestyle takes the pressure and frustration out of the weight loss process. Make exercise a daily necessity like brushing your teeth rather than a "have to"  and the process won't seem so far gone. When you give your body what it needs rather than what is wants, you set it up for success.

Here are a few guidelines to get you started:

1.  DON'T RUSH: Prepare the body well by foam rolling and stretching before any type of exercise.  This will ensure that your body is released of any tension that you've developed through stress, work, or even a night of rest.

2.  PLAN: Plan your workouts ahead of time.  If you know you will be going straight to the gym from work, bring your workout clothing and planned workout with you.

3. TRAIN CORRECTLY: Depending upon your goal, you will need to train your body specific to this goal.  For example, if fat loss is your goal, be sure to do cardio AFTER strength training to maximize fat loss.

4. SHARE YOUR PROGRESS: I recently sent along some fitness advice to a dancer friend of mine encouraging her to share her progress with someone.  An achievement is most appreciated when it is acknowledged and applauded by someone beside yourself.  Keeping workout logs and food diaries are great practices, but at the end of the day, sharing your struggles and victories with another person is what keeps most people working toward a goal.

Feel free to share your progress with me!  Send along any emails regarding fitness to fawnheart@hotmail.com.  I'd love to hear from you!

Revolution Fitness Closes

Revolution Fitness Closes

Sadly, Boston's own community oriented gym, Revolution Fitness  closes it's doors this week.  As the former Director of Programming for Revolution Fitness, I experienced first hand the charm of this gym that Bostonians appreciated each day.  On any given day, you could expect to walk in and be greeted (by first name) with a smile from Alex, their dedicated and loyal front desk associate and feel like you were walking into your home.

A Second Home

For many, Revolution Fitness was like a second home as they put their trust into the trainers and instructors to help them achieve their fitness goals each day.  The Personal Trainers at Rev Fit offered personal attention and care while the Group Exercise Instructors brought groups of people together to workout.  Being a part of the Revolution Fitness Team was an experience unmatched by any other gym I've worked for not only because of the environment, but because of the people.

I truly will miss the members and staff of Revolution Fitness and want to do my best to stay in contact with all those I have met.  Finding another gym can very much be like finding a new home so for those members from Rev Fit that are looking for some help, I am happy to offer some guidance.

Special Offer to Revolution Fitness Members

I'd like to extend my hand to the members of Rev Fit to help in any way that I can.  If you are a Rev Fit member who has questions about how to move forward with a fitness routine, you are welcome to come and see me at The Brookline Ballet School in Coolidge Corner.

In addition, if you bring your keytag, you will receive:

  • 1 Hour Complimentary Personal Training Session
    • If you were looking forward to meeting with one of my former trainers at Rev Fit for this 1 hour, please feel free to come and see me for your session.
  • 30% off your first month of Personal Training (Bootcamp not included)

Want to set up an appointment?  Email me: fawnheart@hotmail.com

As a final note, I want to personally thank Derek Christensen, owner of Revolution Fitness for all his help, guidance and support during my time at Rev Fit.

Best Wishes!

What is Personal Training?

What is Personal Training?

Personal Training is one of the best ways to get started in a fitness routine.  Setting the appointment, sharing your goals and working together with a fitness professional not only holds you accountable to your goals, but can help you learn more about your body and how to train it in the safest and most effective way.

What is Personal Training?

When you meet with a personal trainer, you are meeting with fitness professional who is an expert in the field of exercise.  They have a solid knowledge base of the body and are there to teach your body the exercises it needs to build flexibility, stability and strength.  When you meet with a trainer, you are meeting someone who is invested in your goals and who will work one-on-one with you to meet those goals.  In addition to taking you through a workout, a good personal trainer will act as a support to you, offering encouragement, drive and focus on any given day.  Spending time with a trainer will help you maximize your time while exercising because you receive personal attention by someone who is not only passionate about exercise, but also about your goals.

When setting an appointment, there are a few questions I ask:

1. What are some fitness goals that you would like to achieve?

2. Do you have a preference in the type of trainer that you would like to meet? (Female, Male, Specialist?)

3. What is the best day and time for you to meet with your trainer?

I’ve also worked with a personal trainer in the past to help me reach a goal of post partum weight loss.  Although I am a personal trainer myself, there was nothing quite like waking up knowing that I was heading to meet with my trainer to work toward meeting my goal.  There were many days following the birth of my son where I was tired, unmotivated and unwilling to step away from my son to do a workout by myself.  But, making the appointment with someone else not only got my butt off the couch, it made me do the work I needed to keep me on track.

If you haven’t tried personal training yet, definitely take the time to meet with a trainer for a introductory session.  Use this time to ask a trainer any questions you might have about your current exercise routine, ways you can change up this routine, or learn a few new exercises.  Even if personal training isn’t in the budget, the knowledge you can gather from meeting with a trainer can set you on the right foot to fitness success.

I had the incredible pleasure of spending some time with the students of Emerson College over the past 6 weeks.  During this time, I was served as a PR "client" to the students, offering them some ideas of where I would like to improve PR in my business.  The students communicated with me through via discussion board asking any and all questions they could to develop the best Mini PR plan for my business.  This past Monday, I was wowed by these students as they each presented me with well thought out plans, each unique in design and innovative in execution.  A big thanks to all your efforts Emerson students!!!I
Exercise of the Week

Exercise of the Week: PLANK

Women often come to me with the common question: “What exercise can I do to flatten my tummy?”

Well, the answer to that isn’t as easy as you think.

First of all, there are many factors that come in to play regarding the toning of the abdominal region:

*diet
*exercise
*cardio
*water intake
*sodium intake

Secondly, there is no ONE exercise that you can do to rid yourself of fat around the abdomen. BUT there is one that is a staple for my clients (both in-studio and out) and that exercise is called the PLANK.

TRY IT!!!

Try holding this exercise in full plank (on the toes and elbows, not on the knees) for 60 seconds.
